Hombres Jovenes Con PALABRA

The El Joven Noble Program and Hombres Jovenes Con Palabra is looking forward to its fourth year in the East Los Angeles community. Currently, the program's educational workshops are being implemented at various middle/intermediate schools, high schools and juvenile detention centers and the on-site at The National Latino Fatherhood and Family Institute. Educational presentations are facilitated at more diverse locations such as community events/health fairies, community agencies. The sessions and presentations discuss and teach important cultural concepts such as Palabra "(word)" and Respetar (respect) that lead to positive male behavior that prevents both unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. In addition to workshops, the agency hosts one of the Nation's innovative programs "El Joven Noble Program Youth Leadership Development Program." This twenty-week Rites of Passage program provides additional cultural teachings to the young men, which connects them to their families and their communities.. These young men are developing leadership skills and applying them into their lives and the community. The program is also starting the Coyote Circulo, composed of young men that are just starting the Rites of Passage Program. Out of community requests, the Coyote Circulo will commence a program for young boys between the ages of 9 - 12. It has been very exciting witnessing the program grow and to see many parents involve in the lives of their sons. —Ricardo Lopez
